Wollak-san

The ahjusshi I met the day before made a face of “wow” when I said I was headed for Wollak-san the next day (this was another point the ahjusshi used against his son’s inability to keep up – how I had already climbed 2 mountains prior to Chiak-san and how I was headed to Wollak-san the next day). Apparently, Wollak-san is supposed to be harder than Chiak-san; supposedly steeper, longer, and just harder.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this, but because it’s me, I went anyways. What ended up happening is that I was constrained for time today. The last bus out of Chungju was 6pm to Daejun where my gomo (father side aunt – as opposed to mother side which is eemo) lives. I hadn’t ever met her, but when I spoke to her for a few minutes, she said I had met her when I was like 12. Clearly, either I have developed dementia or she’s developed dementia. I put the blame on me though. I still can’t place a specific moment, but I guess she could be right.

So, Wollak-san ended up being an OAB (out and back for those of you not familiar with triathlon training terms). This means I was going to split my time, 2 hours out and 2 hours back. I made decent distance into the mountain, but I think my turnaround point was just as the trail got really tough (and it also seemed to disappear to me), so I think it was “lucky” me. I definitely took it “easy” on this mountain as Chiak-san the day before had been a huge day. I stopped to take more photos, watched butterflies, took in the scenery etc. It was good. No major stories to report, just some photos:

By this point, I had come back down so, I went to catch the bus to Daejun to go see family.
